MELBOURNE, FL - Florida Southern College placed 71 student-athletes on the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Fall Honor Roll, the conference office announced on Wednesday. In addition to its 71 Honor Roll selections, Florida Southern had 27 student-athletes earn a perfect 4.0 grade-point average last semester. The Moccasins had the second-highest total of student-athletes earn a spot on the Honor Roll, and were also second in the number of those with a 4.0 GPA.
The SSC recognized a total of 671 student-athletes on the Fall Honor Roll, a new conference record. To be eligible for the Fall SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. Participants in the sports of men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer and volleyball were eligible for the fall honor roll.
Florida Southern's women's soccer team led the way with 23 selections, while women's cross country (17), men's soccer (16), volleyball (9), and men's cross country (6) were also represented.
"Sunshine State Conference student-athletes are among the best in the country athletically, academically and in their communities," stated SSC Commissioner Ed Pasque. " Today's announcement of 671 student-athletes on the Commissioner's Honor Roll is further evidence of this fact."
Having won 104 Division II National Championships since the league was founded in 1975, SSC's studentathletes have proven to be successful in the classroom as well. The SSC boasts an Academic Success Rate of 86 percent for the eighth consecutive year. The mark ranks first among all 24 Division II conferences.
