Mocs Mount 4-3 Comeback Win in Two-Day Affair Against Highlanders

LAKELAND, FL - What started as a Tuesday afternoon start between Florida Southern College women's tennis and New Jersey Institute of Technology turned into three hours of rain delays and a Wednesday afternoon resumption of action as the Moccasins shocked the Highlanders, 4-3. The No. 9 Moccasins (11-1) upset the Highlanders (12-3) in dramatic fashion, clinching the match after No. 50 Lorena Rionda defeated Advaita Saravanan in two sets in the No. 2 singles flight with one match remaining. The win marks the first time that the Mocs have defeated a Division I opponent since the 2012 season when the Moccasins upset a pair of top-flight teams in Villanova on March 6 by a 8-1 score and Incarnate Word on March 25 by a 6-3 score.

Three Moccasins tie for the team-lead in singles with nine wins for Rionda, Lola Asis, and Magda Stepnik. The Mocs have now won 53 out of 67 total singles matches and 22 out of 33 doubles matches, while no Moccasin has a losing record in singles play.
