  • Gartrell Named WGCA Second Team All-American for Second Year in a Row

    For the second year in a row, Florida Southern junior Amanda Gartrell has been named a Second Team All-American by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association. First team selections were announced at the conclusion of stroke play at the national finals on May 15, and the second team and honorable mention honorees were announced Monday night, May 20.

The announcement was made Monday night at the awards banquet prior to the start of the NCAA Championships.

    CLEVELAND, TENN. – Florida Southern completed the NCAA Division II South Region Women’s Golf Tournament with a final-round 310 to finish in ninth place, while Amanda Gartrell had her second straight 74, but fell one stroke short of a playoff to advance to the Division II National Finals as an individual qualifier. She tied for 14th with a score of 223.

    LEVELAND, TENN. – On the second day of the NCAA Division II South Region Women's Golf Tournament, Florida Southern fell four spots but the 13th-ranked Moccasins are still in the running for a spot in the national finals. The Mocs will head into the final round of the regional tournament in eighth place, needing to make up seven shots in the standings to have a chance for advancement.

In fact, the Moccasins spent more time in the lead Monday than anyone else, and at day’s end were tied for fourth, only four shots behind first-place Florida Tech.
  • NCAA Division II Women's Golf South Regional Begins Monday in Cleveland, Tennessee

    The NCAA Division II South Region Tournament gets underway Monday morning at Cleveland Country Club in Cleveland, Tennessee where Florida Southern is one of 12 teams competing for four spots in the Division II National Finals. Lee University is serving as host for the three-day, three-round tournament that is one of four regionals being played across the country this week. The top four teams in each of those, along with the top four individuals not with the advancing teams, will move on to the national finals in Palm Beach Gardens, May 14-18.
  • Women's Golf Team Officially Selected for NCAA Division II South Region Tournament

    INDIANAPOLIS – The Florida Southern women’s golf team has been selected to compete in the 2019 NCAA Division II South Region Tournament as the No. 7 seed in Cleveland, Tennessee. The Moccasins are making their 20th appearance as a team in the NCAA Tournament, and 19th in 23 years under head coach Robbie Davis. This year’s South Region Tournament is being hosted by Lee University and will be played at Cleveland Country Club from May 6-8.

    CORAL SPRINGS, FLA. – Heading into NCAA postseason play, the Florida Southern women’s golf team is ranked 13th in the April 26 Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) National Poll. Though the Moccasins slid two spots from their previous ranking they picked up 17 additional points in the poll, which is once again topped by Sunshine State Conference rival Barry.

The Moccasins had a final-round 301 to finish eighth as a team, and Gartrell shot a final-round 71 to tie for fourth individually.

The 11th-ranked Moccasins are in eighth place in the team standings with Gartrell tied for sixth individually.

    The Florida Southern women’s golf team opens play in the 2019 Sunshine State Conference Championships on Sunday as the Moccasins and 10 other teams descend on the south course at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Saint Leo for the three-round, 54-hole tournament. It’s the seventh time the SSC Championships have been held at Lake Jovita, and Saint Leo University is this year’s host school.

Host school Barry, ranked No. 2 in the country, won its own tournament by nine shots over No. 10 Florida Tech.

    WINDERMERE, FL – Loren Perez shot a third consecutive 74, and Amanda Gartrell had a team-best 72 on Tuesday to lead No. 12 Florida Southern to a fifth-place showing at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational hosted by Rollins. The Moccasins finished tied with Lee at +41 (905) with Florida Tech capturing the team title with a +4 (868).

  • Nova Southeastern Pulls Away to Win Lady Moc Classic While Moccasins Shoot 299 in Final Round to Finish Eighth

    LAKELAND, FLA. – Seven schools had their best scores of the tournament Tuesday, including host Florida Southern, but it wasn’t enough to catch Nova Southeastern, which did not have its best score but still had the best in Tuesday’s final round to hold on to its lead and win the Lady Moc Classic for the second year in a row. The Sharks closed at +18 to finish nine shots ahead of Barry and Lynn and win their fourth tournament of the season.

    LAKELAND, FLA. – Nova Southeastern began the 2019 Lady Moc Classic with an opening-round record 287 before being out-shot by seven other schools in round two, but the Sharks still managed to hold the lead at the end of the day. The first day of the tournament saw some of the best scores across the board the tournament has ever had, with Nova up by six shots over Saint Leo, and seven shots over three teams that are tied for third.

    LAKELAND – The Florida Southern women’s golf team will be hosting the 21st annual Lady Moc Classic this Monday and Tuesday at Grasslands Golf and Country Club where 17 schools will compete in one of the country’s most recognized NCAA Division II tournaments. The Lady Moc Classic features two rounds on Monday beginning at 8 a.m., and one round on Tuesday, also starting at 8 a.m.

    ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA. – Florida Southern got a team-best 76 from Loren Perez in the second round, and a 13th-place finish overall from Amanda Gartrell to wrap up the World Golf Invitational in fifth place out of 18 teams.
