  • WGCA Names Three Moccasins as All-American Scholars

    CORAL SPRINGS, FL - The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) has released its all-American Scholars for the recently completed 2017-18 season, and Florida Southern College women's golf saw three of its student-athletes earn the honor. Tori Higgins, Shelby Lewis, and Ashley Zagers were all recognized for their work in the classroom. The criteria for selection as a WGCA all-American scholar are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics, as student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 or higher.

  • Florida Southern Places 169 Student-Athletes on SSC Commissioner's Spring Honor Roll

    MELBOURNE, FL - Florida Southern College place 169 student-athletes on the SSC Commissioner's Spring Honor Roll, the Sunshine State Conference office announced on Tuesday morning, placing the Moccasins second among all 11 SSC member institutions. In addition, the Mocs had a conference-best 60 student-athletes finish with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for the spring semester, nearly twice as many as second-place Florida Tech (36).
  • Gartrell Named to WGCA All-America Second Team

    Florida Southern’s Amanda Gartrell picked up a pair of awards Thursday from the Women’s Golf Coaches Association as the sophomore from Lakeland, Florida was named to the All-South Region Team and a Second Team All-American. She is the first women’s golfer to earn All-American honors since Emily Rymer in 2015, and the first to do so as a sophomore since M.J. Audette and Silvie Dittertova in 2010.

    HOUSTON – Playing her best round of the tournament, and shooting one-under on the back nine, Amanda Gartrell closed out the 2018 NCAA Division II National Women’s Golf Championships with a 75 that gave her a 34th-place finish at the four-day event. The sophomore from Lakeland was playing in her first national tournament as an individual qualifier.

The sophomore from Lakeland is playing in her first national championship tournament following her third-place finish at the regional tournament that qualified her for the finals.

    GERMANTOWN, TN – Down by 14 shots from where they needed to be when the day began, Florida Southern climbed back into contention with not only its best round of the tournament but the best round for any team on the final day of the NCAA Division II South Super Regional. While that comeback ended a little bit short, Amanda Gartrell’s did not. The sophomore from Lakeland, Florida used a final-round 71 to move up 12 spots and finish third overall, punching her own ticket to the Division II National Finals as an individual qualifier.

    GERMANTOWN, TN – Head coach Robbie Davis has more freshmen than seniors in his lineup at this year’s NCAA Division II South Super Regional, and it was one of each that led Florida Southern in scoring in the first round of that tournament on Monday. The freshman was Shelby Lewis and the senior was Abbey Williams, with each shooting a five-over par 77 to help the Moccasins end the day tied for fifth place.

    The Florida Southern women’s golf team begins NCAA postseason play Monday in Germantown, Tennessee at the Division II South Super Regional at Germantown Country Club. Christian Brothers University is serving as host for the tournament that features the top 12 teams from the South Region along with six individual qualifiers.   • Gartrell Voted First Team All-SSC; Zagers Wins SSC Freshman-of-the-Year Award in Women’s Golf

    MELBOURNE, FL – Florida Southern sophomore Amanda Gartrell has been selected for the All-Sunshine State Conference Women’s Golf Team in a vote of league coaches, earning a spot on the All-SSC First Team, while Ashley Zagers has been voted the SSC Freshman-of-the-Year. Gartrell, who is a graduate of Lakeland’s Lake Gibson High School, is leading the Moccasins in stroke average for the second year in a row and currently ranks 13th nationally in the Golfstat individual rankings. Zagers, a home-schooled student-athlete from Oldsmar, Florida, has the lowest stroke average of any freshman in the SSC this year.
  • Women's Golf Team Earns Spot in South Super Regional

    INDIANAPOLIS – The Florida Southern women’s golf team has been selected for the 2018 NCAA Division II South Super Regional in Germantown, Tennessee. The Moccasins will go into NCAA postseason play as the No. 6 seed in the South and will be one of 12 teams competing in the Super Regional at Germantown Country Club, hosted by Christian Brothers University from May 7-9.
  • Women's Golf Team Now No. 8 in Golfstat Rankings and No. 6 in NCAA South Region

    With the Sunshine State Conference Championships behind them, and a little over a week until selections are made for the NCAA Division II Super Regionals, the Florida Southern women’s golf team is No. 8 in the country according to the newest Golfstat rankings, and more importantly in terms of their postseason standing, No. 6 in the NCAA South Region rankings. The top 12 teams in the region will earn spots in the NCAA South Super Regional, and with their schedule complete, the Moccasins are in good position to earn one of them.

Behind her three-under-par 69, Florida Southern had a 296 to remain in seventh place as a team while drawing while significantly closing the gap on the teams in front of them.

    BOCA RATON – Playing in the first postseason tournament of her college career, freshman Ashley Zagers was Florida Southern’s top golfer Sunday in the first round of the Sunshine State Conference Women’s Golf Championships, turning in a score that was four strokes better than any of her more veteran teammates. With most of round one being played in windy conditions at Osprey Point Golf Course, Zagers’ 78 put her in a tie for 17th place individually, and helped the 6th-ranked Moccasins end the day in seventh place as a team.

    Postseason play begins this weekend for the Florida Southern women’s golf team as it heads to Boca Raton, Florida for the 2018 Sunshine State Conference Championships. The three-day tournament running from Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday features one round each day at Osprey Point Golf Course where Lynn University will serve as host. The SSC Championships were last held in Boca Raton in 2011 at Boca Country Club.

    NAVARRE, FL – Amanda Gartrell started the day as the only Moccasin in the individual top-10 at the Argonaut Invitational, but by the end of it, so were Tori Higgins and Ashley Zagers. Shelby Lewis and Abbey Williams also shot in the 70s Tuesday, and the Moccasins’ team score of 302 allowed Florida Southern to hold position in third place in its final tournament of the regular season.

    LAKELAND, FL – Heather Wall (Burgner) helped Florida Southern win two Lady Moc Classic titles as a player, and the former Moccasin golfer left this year’s tournament a winner yet again, but this time wearing a different uniform. Now the head coach for Nova Southeastern, Wall led the Sharks to the best final score in the tournament’s 20-year history, while Barry’s Tilda Larsson set the individual scoring record as medalist. Host Florida Southern shot a 304 Tuesday and finished sixth in the field of 17 teams, with sophomore Amanda Gartrell tying for fourth at one-under par 215.
