LAKELAND - The 45th nationally-ranked Florida Southern men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 match to No. 12 Embry-Riddle on Thursday in Sunshine State Conference action at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. The loss drops the Moccasins to 8-8 overall and 2-4 in the SSC while the visiting Eagles improve to 11-5 and 4-2.
Embry-Riddle grabbed the first two doubles matches with the nation's second-ranked doubles team of Rodolfo Arreygue and Andres Donayre defeating Moccasins Tim Becker and Derek Bell, 8-4, at number one while Juan Ortiz Couder and Lucas Bos topping Miguel Alvarez-Hevia and Oscar Soderlund, 8-0, at number two. FSC's number three duo of Victor Ahlbeck and Blaine Miller edged Deepak Vishavkarma and Mickael Faucher, 8-6, at number three.
In singles, Couder ranked 44th nationally, was awarded a win at number one over 58th-ranked Alvaro Arias, 6-1 (ret.). Bos then topped Lennart Vossgaetter, 6-4, 6-2, at number five while Alvarez-Hevia triumphed, 6-4, 6-2, over Vishavkarma at number two.
FSC's Matt Matsuyama was defeated, 6-3, 6-2 by Faucher at number six while Becker won out, 6-4, 6-4, over Arreygue at number four. In the last battle of the day, Donayre, ranked 33rd nationally, beat Ahlbeck, ranked 55th in the NCAA Division II.
Florida Southern plays Saturday at Barry in Miami Shores at 10 a.m. and then closes out the regular season at home on Tuesday, April 10 against Rollins at 3 p.m.
