LAKELAND - The Florida Southern men's team continued to March on with a 7-2 win over Southern New Hampshire here Wednesday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. The win is the Moccasins fourth in five matches this month and improves the team's record to 4-5 while SNHU drops to 3-3 on the year.
The Moccasins began the day with an 8-5 win by the number one doubles team of Miguel Alvarez-Hevia and Matt Matsuyama over Xavier Aubron and Bas Van Biezen while Blaine Miller and Oscar Soderlund gave FSC a 2-0 lead with a 9-7 triumph over Tiago Fernandes and Jeremy Reichentahl at number three. The Penmen's number two duo of Miguel Marreiros and Ricardo Marreiros stop the FSC sweep by defeating Tim Becker and Derek Bell, 9-8 (7-5).
In singles, FSC's Oscar Soderlund easily defeated Reichentahl at number six, 6-1, 6-2, while Alvarez-Hevia easily downed Ricardo Marreiros, 6-3, 6-1, at number two. Becker then clinched the victory for Florida Southern with a 6-4, 6-1 defeat of Aubron at number four.
Victor Ahlbeck beat Miguel Marreiros, 6-2, 6-4, at number three while Alvaro Arias defeated Tiago Fernandes, 7-6, 6-2, at number one. Finally, Matsuyama dropped a tough 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 match to Van Biezen at number five.
Florida Southern continues its homestand with a 3 p.m. match against West Chester Thursday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
