LAKELAND - The Florida Southern men's tennis team started Spring Break off in style, recording a 9-0 blanking of visiting Walsh here Monday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. The win improves the Moccasins record to 2-4 while Walsh falls to 6-6.
FSC's double duo of Fabian Lundberg and Derek Bell got the Moccasins rolling with an 8-2 win at number three over Walsh's Jonah Carter and Tim Bruin. The top Moccasins' combo of Laurent Mailloux and Miguel Alvarez-Hevia posted an 8-2 win against Vasily Vidmanov and Rodrigo Garrcia at number one to give the pair a 5-1 record in 2017 while Jose de Sario and Brian Slivonik made it a Florida Southern sweep with an 8-5 triumph versus Felix Zimmerman and Heitor Adegas at number two doubles.
In singles, Lundberg topped Vidmanov, 6-1, 6-2 at number one while Mailloux wrapped up the Moccasins' win with a 6-0, 6-3 defeat of Garcia at number three singles.
Alvarez-Hevia then picked up a 6-3, 6-2 victory at number four singles to improve to 4-1 on the season while facing Adegas and Blaine Miller downed Carter, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) at number six for a win in his season debut. At number two singles, de Sario won out, 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 10-7 over Zimmerman and Oscar Soderlund defeated Jose Fernandez, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at number five.
Florida Southern plays its second of three matches in three days taking on Mercyhurst Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Warden Tennis Center.
