Deland, FL – Florida Southern took two of three doubles matches, but couldn't maintain the momentum as Stetson handed the Moccasins a 6-1 defeat here Saturday at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
The Moccasins' number three doubles team of newcomer Lennart Vossgätter and Derek Bell fell, 6-1, to Coilin MacNamara and Graham Ball of Stetson, but Florida Southern evened the score with a 6-2 win at number two by Fabian Lundberg and Brian Slivonik over Angus Bradshaw and William Shkrob. Laurent Mailloux and Miguel Alvarez-Hevia recorded a 6-2 triumph over Loic Blanco and Colter Decoste to give the Moccasins one match point for doubles.
In singles, it was all Stetson as the Hatters swept the six matches. Slivonik put up the hardest fight for the Moccasins, falling 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 to Blanco at number two singles. Lundberg also went to three sets before dropping a 6-0, 4-6, 10-5 loss to Ball at number one.
The rest of the match was as follows: #3, Bradshaw def. Mailloux, 6-4, 6-3; #4, Shkrob def. Alvarez-Hevia, 6-3, 6-0; #5, Pierre Fosser def. Matt Matsuyama, 6-1, 6-3; and at #6, MacNamara def. Vossgätter, 6-2, 6-1.
Florida Southern (0-2) will head next to Valdosta, GA for two matches on Feb. 17 & 18. The Moccasins will face West Florida on Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. on campus of Valdosta State University and then playing the host Blazers on Feb. 18 at 11 a.m.
