Mocs Fall, 5-4, to Palm Beach Atlantic In Marathon Match

WEST PALM BEACH - Florida Southern and Palm Beach Atlantic battled here Saturday for over five and a half hours and at the end it was the host Sailfish prevailing, 5-4, in a non-conference match at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.

"Amazing fight by the guys," said FSC Head Coach Trey Heath.

The match came down to number three singles as Moccasin Brian Slovinik squared off with the Sailfish's Nicholas Battistini in a match that took over four hours to complete. Slivonik saved 11 set points and five match points before finally falling 7-6 (11-9), 6-7 (8-10), 6-4.

Palm Beach swept the doubles as PBAU's Nicolas Uryson and Hendrik Burmeister defeated FSC's Jose de Sario and Slivonik, 8-4 at number one. The Sailfish's duo of Thomas Salmon and Pietro de Silva posted an 8-6 win over Fabian Lundberg and Arthur Viallaneix at number three before Battistini and Fernando Arroyo outlasted Miguel Alvarez-Hevia and Oscar Soderlund, 9-8 (7-5) at number two.

Viallaneix picked up the first point for the 43rd-ranked Moccasins (11-7), posting a 6-1, 6-4 win over Salmon at number five singles, but 35th-ranked Palm Beach Atlantic got the point back at number one singles as Uryson, ranked 16th in the country, downed Lundberg, 6-0, 6-3.

Florida Southern then rallied with three-straight wins to tie the match at 4-4. Alvarez-Hevia downed Asti Adams, 6-4, 6-2 at number four and de Sario posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory at number two over Burmeister. Finally, Soderlund beat Sanislav Feofilov, 7-5, 6-2 at number six, setting up the deciding match at number three singles.

Florida Southern returns home on April 4 to take on Florida Tech in a 3 p.m. Sunshine State Conference match at the Warden Tennis Center.
