LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Arthur Viallaneix posted two more wins on Saturday to remain undefeated in the Grizzly Open here at Georgia Gwinnett College. Viallaneix will now play in the semifinals Sunday at 10:30 am against Colby Gandy of Middle Georgia.
Viallaneix opened play Saturday by beating Calle Knutsson of USC-Aiken, 7-6, 4-6, 1-0(6) and then advanced to the B Draw semifinals with a 6-1, 6-4 win over ROnald Mataba of Alabama State.
In the B Draw of Open Singles, Blaine Miller fell 6-1, 6-2, to Clement Raymond of USC-Aiken in the Round of 16. Jose de Sario advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Louis Malejka of Emmanuel before also falling to Raymond, 6-2, 6-3. Oscar Söderlund was downed, 6-0, 6-2, by Thiago Lopes of Cumberland in the Round of 16.
In the consolation bracket, Derek Bell won his opening match, 8-7, over Fernando Arroyo of Palm Beach Atlantic, but was beaten Chunmay Handa of Georgua State, 8-2 in the third round. Mark Buckman was defeated 8-6 by Jaime Gusano of USC-Aiken and Brian Wilson lost 8-5 to Dylan Jones of Middle Georgia;
The doubles team of Miguel Alvarez-Hevia and Fabian Lundberg had to wait until late Saturday for their first match of the tournament as the duo received a first-dound bye and their opponents in round two had to withdraw due to injury. The Mocs doubles team was schedule to play Joshua Goodman and Jonathan Jemison of Emory late Saturday.
Miller and Buckman lost their first match of the tournament, 8-2, to Takura Miambo and Karlo Skvorc of Alabama State. Mailloux and Viallaneix dropped a 8-0 decision to Marc Hofer and Loic Minery of Lander in their first match.
Also, late Friday, the doubles team of de Sario and Söderlund was defeated by Nishanth Rebello and Filip Seatovic of Middle Georgia by a 8-2 score.
