PENSACOLA – Miguel Alvarez-Hevia and Jose de Sario posted first round victories for Florida Southern on Day One of the UTSA/ITA Regionals played here Friday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of West Florida.
Alvarez-Hevia topped Florida Tech's Ricky Corona, 6-1, 6-1, while de Sario bested Valdosta State's Xavi Pineda, 6-3, 2-6 (14-12). Unfortunately, both Mocs were defeated in their second round matches. Alvarez-Hevia fell to Saint Leo's Alberto Campus, 6-2, 6-1 and de Sario was topped by Egor Panyushkin, also of Saint Leo, by a 6-1, 6-1 score.
In other FSC single matches, Florida Tech's Gerard Carpinelli beat Florida Southern's Arthur Villanaeix, 7-5, 7-6 (4) and Laurent Mailloux was beaten by West Florida's Pedro Dumont, 7-6, 6-2.
In doubles action on Friday, Alvarez-Hevia and de Sario defeated Lee University's Boyd Blackburn and Rhys Milne by an 8-3 score but then lost by the same score to Alex Peyrot and Kenny Brasil of the host Argonauts. Also, Mailloux and Viallaneix received an opening round bye and then lost 8-3 to Saint Leo's Alex Theiler and Alberto Barroso-Campos.
In Saturday's Consolation Round, Mailloux will face West Alabama's Nicolai Jochamowitz and Viallaneix will take on Rollins' Robin Marchione with both matches beginning at 9:30 am.
