    LAKELAND, FL – Florida Southern College President Dr. Anne B. Kerr has announced the appointment of Drew Howard as the Moccasins’ new Director of Athletics & Dean of Wellness. The announcement was made on Monday during a press conference at Streamline Sale Arena at Jenkins Field House.

    EATONTON, GA – Fourth-ranked Florida Southern shot a final-round 304 on Tuesday to finish one shot ahead of top-ranked Barry and a group of other top-25 teams, and finished the Bobcat Invitational as runner-up to No. 2 Lynn by nine shots.

    EATONTON, GA – Cold and windy conditions did not deter the Florida Southern men’s golf team Monday at the Bobcat Invitational as the 4th-ranked Moccasins were one of two teams to break par for the day and had four golfers among the top-20 through the first two rounds of the tournament. Florida Southern will go into Tuesday’s final round trailing only Lynn, with the Knights at -3 and the Mocs at -1.

    ORLANDO, FLA. – Playing their first regular season dual match in 42 years, the fifth-ranked Florida Southern Moccasins defeated Division I Columbia University in a two-round head-to-head competition Saturday at Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando. The Moccasins defeated the Lions by 19 shots and had six of the top eight golfers.

    KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – One look at the weather Tuesday at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island made Florida Southern coach Lee White realize one thing. Anyone who could shoot a 75 would have a very good score. For the record, only seven golfers did it in a field of 90, and none did better than a 74. With scores soaring throughout the day, No. 5 Florida Southern was unable to hold its second-round lead as No. 14 Young Harris came from behind to win the Newberry College Invitational by two shots over the Moccasins.
  • Coutsolioutsos Picks up SSC Men's Golfer of the Week Award After Placing Second at Matlock Classic

    MELBOURNE, FL – Following his best performance of the season, Florida Southern freshman Max Coutsolioutsos has been named the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week. The freshman was the individual runner-up at the 2019 Matlock Collegiate Classic with a seven-under-par 209.
  • VanDerLaan Ties Tournament Record at Newberry College Invitational, Propelling Mocs to 11-Shot Lead After Day One

    KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – A tournament-record 65 put senior Michael VanDerLaan on top of the standings after one round of the Newberry College Invitational, and two other under-par scores by freshmen Max Coutsolioutsos and Johnny Tucker helped put No. 5 Florida Southern at -10 as a team. By the end of the day, the Moccasins had an 11-stroke lead, and a 67 by VanDerLaan in round two widened his lead to seven strokes.

    NORMAN, Okla. – With the spring portion of the season now underway, the first Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll of the second semester has been announced, and the Florida Southern Moccasins have moved up one spot to No. 5 in the rankings. Four of the top five teams are from the Sunshine State Conference, and there are seven SSC teams in the poll overall.

    LAKELAND, FLA. – Lynn University had a 10-shot lead over West Florida and Barry when the final round of the 2019 Matlock Collegiate Classic began, and a little over halfway through the day that lead was gone. The 2nd-ranked Knights, however, had enough time left to re-group down the stretch and pull ahead one more time for a two-shot win over top-ranked Barry to claim their second tournament title in a row, and their second all-time at the Matlock.

    LAKELAND, FLA. – Florida Southern ended day one of the 38th annual Matlock Collegiate Classic in fifth place with a four-over-par 580, but Monday’s biggest story may have been the play of the Moccasins’ Max Coutsolioutsos. Playing his best golf of the season, the freshman from Bradenton, Florida shot a first-round 66 and followed that with a 70 in the afternoon to claim a share of the individual lead with one round remaining.

    LAKELAND, FLA. – One of the most prestigious college golf tournaments in the country begins Monday morning at Lone Palm Golf Club where 15 teams take the course for the 38th annual Matlock Collegiate Classic. Annually attracting the best men’s golf programs in NCAA Division II, the tournament is named after former Florida Southern College golf coach Charley Matlock, an inaugural inductee into the school’s athletic hall of fame and member of the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame.

The Moccasins maintained their position from the previous poll, and the top six remained virtually unchanged, with five of those schools from the Sunshine State Conference.

    SEASIDE, CALIF. – Freshman Johnny Tucker shot a one-under-par 71 that was Florida Southern’s best round of the day, and along with a pair of 72s and a pair of 73s, it moved the 6th-ranked Moccasins up three spots in the final round for a fifth-place finish at the Otter Invitational.

The Moccasins fell four spots from their position in late September as part of a top-10 shakeup that saw only top-ranked Barry hold on to its previous ranking, with three new teams moving into the upper echelon of the poll.

    NORMAN, OK – Following their runner-up finish at the Cougar Invitational earlier this week, the Florida Southern men’s golf team has moved up to No. 2 in the first regular season edition of the Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll. The Moccasins are up two spots from their preseason ranking, with Barry University the new No. 1, and the top six teams in the poll all from the Sunshine State Conference.

    COLUMBUS, GA – Halfway through the first two rounds of the Cougar Invitational, the 4th-ranked Florida Southern men’s golf team was in 11th place, though an eight-shot deficit at that point was far from insurmountable. As long as the Moccasins played well in the final two rounds, new head coach Lee White knew they would still be among the contenders at the end. The Moccasins did indeed play well, putting together a final-round score of -11 to climb all the way into first before Carson-Newman went four-under on the final two holes to finish three shots ahead of Florida Southern.

    COLUMBUS, GA – Behind a pair of 69s by Chase Ibbotson and Michael VanDerLaan, 4th-ranked Florida Southern climbed steadily up the standings in the second half of Monday’s action at the Cougar Invitational. When all the cards were in, the Moccasins had the best score of the round with a 283 (-1) and ended day one of the tournament tied for fourth out of 17 teams, and only five shots behind first-place Valdosta State.

    DURHAM, NC - Senior Michael VanDerLaan was among the tournament leaders with an opening-round 71, and freshman Max Coutsolioutsos nearly matched that score for the Moccasins with a 72 in the second round as Florida Southern finished day one of the Rod Myers Invitational in 11th place. The Moccasins are the only Division II team in the season-opening tournament hosted by Duke University.
