  • Coultas Picks up Second Player of the Week Award this Season, Sixth of His Career

    MELBOURNE, FL – For the second time this season and the sixth time in his career, Florida Southern senior John Coultas is the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week in men’s golf. The award comes on the heels of his near-record performance at the Matlock Collegiate Classic, which he won with a career-best score of 15-under-par.

    NORMAN, OK – Following their victory in the Matlock Collegiate Classic, the Florida Southern Moccasins remained No. 2 in the first Bushnell Golfweek Division II national poll of the spring, but the Mocs gained significant ground on the top-ranked West Florida Argonauts.

    LAKELAND, FL – Before the start of this year’s Matlock Collegiate Classic, Florida Southern head coach Doug Gordin talked not only about what it would take for the Moccasins to win the tournament but also about all the memories from previous Matlocks in his 23 years leading the Mocs. He closed by saying he hoped to make one more great memory in the final home tournament of his career. That hope became a reality Tuesday at Lone Palm Golf Club where the 2nd-ranked Moccasins pulled away from No. 12 Barry over the final nine holes to win the Matlock by six shots.

    LAKELAND, FL – In a field crowded with top-flight teams and numerous All-Americans, Florida Southern seniors John VanDerLaan and John Coultas rose to the top Monday on the first day of the Matlock Collegiate Classic. With Coultas shooting a 65 in round one and VanDerLaan shooting a 65 in round two, the two senior All-Americans led the 2nd-ranked Moccasins to a team score of 20-under par and a five-shot lead over No. 12 Barry with one round remaining.
  • 37th Annual Matlock Collegiate Classic Begins Monday with the Entire Top-Five in Division II Among the Participants

    LAKELAND – The Matlock Collegiate Classic, which annually draws the best NCAA Division II men’s golf teams in the country, begins Monday morning at Lone Palm Golf Club with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Now in its 37th year, the Matlock features 15 teams competing in three rounds across two days. The first two rounds are Monday, with round two beginning immediately after the conclusion of round one. Tuesday’s action gets underway with another shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
  • Gordin Receives 40-Year Service Award from the Golf Coaches Association of America

    LAS VEGAS - Florida Southern men’s golf coach Doug Gordin has received the 40-Year Service Award by the Golf Coaches Association of America at their annual convention, held this year in Las Vegas. Gordin is the only recipient of that award this year, which recognizes outstanding service to both his school and the sport of golf.
  • Florida Southern Men's Golf Team Heads into Spring Semester Ranked No. 2 in Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll

    NORMAN, OK – The Florida Southern Moccasins will go into the spring semester ranked No. 2 in the nation by the Golf Coaches Association of America in its final Bushnell Golfweek Division II poll of the fall. The November 17 rankings have West Florida still at No. 1, with Florida Southern the first of four Sunshine State Conference teams rounding out the top-five.

  • For the Second Time this Fall, John VanDerLaan is SSC Player-of-the-Week

    MELBOURNE, FL – For the second time this fall and the fourth time in his career, Florida Southern senior John VanDerLaan is the Sunshine State Conference Player-of-the-Week in men’s golf. It is also the second consecutive SSC award for VanDerLaan, making him the first player in the league to earn back-to-back honors since another Moccasin golfer, Tim Crouch, did so in the spring of 2013.
  • November 1 Golfstat Rankings Have Florida Southern No. 2

    Following another impressive showing at the Miami Intercollegiate earlier this week, the Florida Southern men’s golf team has finished the fall portion of its schedule ranked second in the November 1 Golfstat rankings. Two Moccasins are also in the top-20 of the individual rankings, with senior John VanDerLaan at No. 2, and senior John Coultas at No. 18.
  • Another Win for John VanDerLaan as Senior All-American Captures Miami Intercollegiate Crown; Moccasins Finish Second as a Team

    DORAL, FL – Senior John VanDerLaan won his second tournament of the fall Tuesday by shooting a six-under par 64 in the final round of the Miami Intercollegiate, while Jacob Penny and John Coultas each finished in the top-10 to lead 3rd-ranked Florida Southern to a runner-up finish as a team.

    PUNTA DEL ESTE, Uruguay – Leading from start to finish for a comfortable four-stroke victory at the 2017 Roberto De Vicenzo Punta del Este Open Copa NEC, former Florida Southern men’s golfer Brian Richey carded a 1-under 69 Sunday (Oct. 29) to finish the week at 16-under 264. The 31-year old from Lakeland, Florida, became the third wire-to-wire champion this year on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica.

The Florida Southern Moccasins came from behind Tuesday at Innisbrook Resort to win the 2017 Copperhead Championship, behind a pair of brothers who finished in the top-five together for the first time in their college careers.

With the all of the top five ranked teams in the nation competing, along with seven of the top-10, and 10 of the top-25, Florida Southern finished the first day of the Copperhead Championship tied for third.

    NORMAN, OK – In the first regular season poll of the 2017-18 season, the Florida Southern men’s golf team is ranked No. 3 in the country, sitting behind only West Florida and Lynn. The Moccasins remained well ahead of Barry and Nova Southeastern, which rounded out the top-five in the September 29 edition of the poll.

The senior from Valrico has now won the SSC Men’s Golf Player-of-the-Week five times in his career.

    BOWLING GREEN, FL – A new season has begun for the top-ranked and defending national champion Florida Southern men’s golf team, but the Moccasins will have to wait a little while longer to see where they stand after the first day of the Griffin Invitational. Florida Southern shot a 290 in Monday’s first round but the second round was suspended due to darkness.

    LAKELAND, FL (9/14/17) - We are pleased to share with you that as of this morning we now have power in almost all buildings across campus. What wonderful news! We are still waiting for power to come on in Colony Arms Apartments, Roberts Academy, and a few FSC houses surrounding the campus. We will continue to communicate updates as they become available and will accommodate any student who lives in one of these locations if power is still not restored when they return to campus.

Three months after winning the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championship, the Moccasins are ranked number one in the GCAA (Golf Coaches Association of America) Division II Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Gordin to Receive Distinguished Alumni Award from Ohio Wesleyan

    Florida Southern men's golf coach Doug Gordin has been selected to receive the Distinguished Alumni Citation from the Ohio Wesleyan Alumni Association, the highest award presented by that university's organization. It is reserved for those whose achievements in professional pursuits and in public service rise to extraordinary levels, and is presented annually at Ohio Wesleyan's Reunion Weekend in May.
