  • Browning, Volleyball Honored at Polk County All-Sports Awards Banquet

    LAKELAND - Florida Southern's Logan Browning and the Moccasin Volleyball team were honored as the Polk County Male Collegiate Athlete and the Polk County Female Collegiate Team of the Year, respectively, by the Central Florida Polk County Sports Marketing Association. The awards were presented at the 2018 Polk County All-Sports Awards Banquet Tuesday at the RP Funding Center.
  • Boston Red Sox Tap Browning In 24th Round of MLB Draft

    The same day he was named the Josh Willingham Award recipient the Division II Baseball's Most Valuable Player, Florida Southern senior Logan Browning was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 24th round (730th pick overall) in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday. The Lakeland native is the third Florida Southern picked by the Red Sox since 1999.
  • Browning Wins Josh Willingham Award as Division II Most Valuable Player

    Florida Southern senior Logan Browning has been named the winner of the 2018 Perfect Game Josh Willingham Award as DII baseball's Most Valuable Player. The award is named for former University of North Alabama standout, Josh Willingham, and honors a player who not only excels on the diamond, but in the dugout, clubhouse and practice field as well, and leads his team to national championship caliber status. This season Browning paced the Mocs as they competed for the program's tenth baseball national title. FSC finished the season 45-11-1 with a third-place finish at the NCAA Division II Baseball Championships.
  • Hintzen Selected as Brett Tomko Award Recipient as Division II Pitcher of the Year

    Florida Southern senior J.T. Hintzen has been named the recipient of the 2018 Perfect Game Brett Tomko Award. The annual award is bestowed to a college baseball pitcher whose on the field performance is deemed the most outstanding at the Division II level. The award is named for former Moccasin Brett Tomko who was 15-2 for the 1995 NCAA National Champion Florida Southern team. Tomko, who went on to win 100 games in the Major Leagues, was named the 1995 National Pitcher and Player of the Year.
  • Milwaukee Brewers Pick Hintzen in 10th Round of MLB Draft

    The Milwaukee Brewers have picked senior J.T. Hintzen with their 10th round pick (305th overall) in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Hintzen is the highest Moccasin draft pick since Jhalan Jackson was tabbed in the seventh round by the New York Yankees in the 2015 draft. He is the 28th Florida Southern player to be drafted in the top ten rounds of the MLB draft.
  • Browning, Burgess, Marze Named to NCAA National All-Tournament Team

    CARY, NC - Logan Browning, Cody Burgess, and Hayden Marze were named to the NCAA Division II National All-Tournament today following Augustana's 3-2 win over Columbus State in the national championship game. The Moccasins were eliminated by Columbus State on Friday to finish third in the eight-team national tournament.

    CARY, NC - Columbus State took advantage of four errors and nine walks by Florida Southern to score nine unearned runs in an 11-6 win, eliminating the Moccasins from play the at the 2018 NCAA Division II Baseball National Tournament here at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The Cougars jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings and the Moccasins could not overcome the early deficit.
  • Browning Strikes Out 11, Villaman Adds Three Hits as Mocs Stay Alive in NCAA Tournament With 3-2 Win

    CARY, NC– Senior Logan Browning struck out 11 batters in 6.0 innings and hot-hitting Omar Villaman went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored as Florida Southern downed Columbus State, 3-2, handing the Cougars their first loss at the 2018 NCAA Division II Baseball National Tournament here at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The win by the Moccasins (45-10-1) sets up a rematch with the Cougars (47-14) scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. with the winner advancing to play for the national championship.
  • Hintzen's Arm, Marze's Record-Setting Homers Advance Mocs in NCAA Tournament

    CARY, NC – J.T. Hintzen tossed eight shutout innings while Hayden Marze slammed two homers as Florida Southern eliminated Texas A&M-Kingsville, 8-0, at the 2018 NCAA Division II Baseball National Tournament here at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The Moccasins (44-10-1) advance to face undefeated Columbus State tomorrow at 10 a.m. (Note new game time). The Javelinas end their season with a 42-17 record.

    Seniors J.T. Hintzen and Logan Browning have been named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams as announced by the America Baseball Coaches Association. Hintzen was a first-team honoree while Browning was voted to the second-team.

    CARY, NC - Florida Southern fell behind 5-0 in the second inning and could not over the deficit, dropping a 6-5 decision to Augustana (S.D.) in a winners' bracket game at the NCAA Division II Baseball National Tournament on Sunday here at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The Moccasins will next play on Wednesday, May 30 at 3 p.m. against Texas A&M-Kingsville which eliminated Mercyhurst, 9-0, Tuesday evening.
  • Browning Strikes Out 11 as Mocs Win Opening Game at NCAA National Tournament

    CARY, NC - Senior All-American Logan Browning matched a season-high with 11 strikeouts as Florida Southern downed Southern Indiana, 5-3, in the Mocs' opening game at the NCAA Division II National Tournament at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. Florida Southern (43-9-1) advances to play Augustana, a 5-2 winner of Southern New Hampshire, Sunday at 7 p.m. The game was originally slated for Monday, but heavy rain is forecast for the area, so four games will be played Sunday.

  • Moccasin Trio Named to D2 CCA All-America Teams

    The second of the postseason All-America teams were announced Friday by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association with reliever J.T. Hintzen earning first-team honors and designated hitter Hayden Marze and pitcher/outfielder Logan Browning garnering second-team recognition. In addition, the American Baseball Coaches Association released its All-South Region Team with Hintzen and Browning selected to the first-team and Marze voted to the second team.
  • Niekro Named Elite 90 Recipient for Division II Baseball

    CARY, NC - J.J. Niekro, a sophomore at Florida Southern College, is the recipient of the Elite 90 Award for the 2018 NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament. He is the third Moccasin student-athlete to receive this prestigious honor this year as Courtney Charneco (volleyball) and Julia Couch (women's lacrosse) were so honored at their respective national tournaments. Overall, Florida Southern has had seven Elite 90 Award recipients since 2011.
  • Moccasins Begin Chase for 10th NCAA National Championship

    The Florida Southern College athletic program has had its volleyball, men's swimming, women's lacrosse, and men's golf on the brink of a national championship this year, but each has fallen just shy of the ultimate goal - an NCAA Division II National Championship. Volleyball and women's lacrosse finished as national runners-up, men's golf tied for third place and men's swimming took fourth place. The Moccasin baseball team will be the latest to chase a title as FSC opens play Saturday at 7 p.m. against Southern Indiana in the NCAA Division II Baseball National Championship Tournament at the USA Baseball Training Complex in Cary, NC.
  • Moccasins Hold Off Tampa Rally to Win South Region Championship

    LAKELAND - Florida Southern jumped out to an 8-0 lead and then held off a late rally to defeat Tampa, 8-7, to capture the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament Championship. The Moccasins now advance to the NCAA national tournament May 26-June 2 in Cary, N.C. The Moccasins erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning and watched as Tampa chipped away at the lead. One day after reliever J.T. Hintzen made his first career start and pitch a complete game, Logan Browning came on the in the eighth inning and then struck out the side in the ninth to pick up his first career save in his first career relief appearance.

Hintzen made his first career start as a Moccasin a memorable one, tossing a complete game three-hitter as Florida Southern downed Tampa, 4-2, to advance to the championship game of the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament held here Tuesday at Henley Field. The two teams will play once again Wednesday at noon in the championship game. The Moccasins (41-9-1) will need to win one more game to advance to the national tournament May 26-June 2 in Cary, NC. Tampa (42-10) advanced to the title game with a 7-1 win late this evening versus Mississippi College.

    LAKELAND - Jacob Teter hit a three-run homer to break a scoreless tie while Cody Burgess added a two-run shot as the Moccasins erupted for five runs in the seventh inning to defeat Nova Southeastern 5-1 in the second round of the NCAA Division II South Region baseball tournament played here at Henley Field. The Moccasins now advance in the winners' bracket to face the winner of this afternoon's Tampa/Delta State game. The time of that game is to be determined.
  • First Game Suspended, Remainder of Day One Postponed at Baseball Regional

    LAKELAND - The opening game of the NCAA Division II South Regional made it to the bottom of the seventh inning before a lightning delay sent the teams off the field. A short time later, heavy rains hit the area and the game was suspended with third-seeded Delta State leading No. 6 Mississippi College, 13-2. The game was eventually suspended and will be resumed Friday, tentatively at 10 a.m., depending on the weather. The remaining two games scheduled for Thursday - #2 Tampa vs. #7 Albany State and #4 Nova Southeastern vs. #5 Montevallo are slated to follow on Friday at times to be determined.

    TAMPA, FL - Florida Southern scored four runs in the fifth inning to back a combined seven-hitter by J.J. Niekro and J.T. Hintzen as the sixth-ranked Moccasins downed No. 4 Tampa 5-1 in the opening game of a Sunshine State Conference twinbill here at UT Baseball Field on the University of Tampa campus. The Spartans countered with a 16-9 win in game two as the two teams wrap up the regular season.

    TAMPA, FL - Jacob Teter scored from third on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth to lift 6th-ranked Florida Southern to a 5-4 win over #4 Tampa Friday night, snapping the Spartans' 21-game Sunshine State Conference win streak. The Moccasins fell behind 3-0 and 4-1 before rallying for the road win. Omar Villaman led the comeback with two hits, three RBI and a run scored as the Moccasins improve to 38-8-1 overall and 21-7 in the SSC while the Spartans, who are ranked #1 in the NCBWA poll, fall to 37-8 and 26-2.
