The Florida Southern baseball team is ranked third nationally in the first regular season Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll of the season. The Moccasins are off to a 17-1-1 start following a rare 0-0 tie today at Mount Olive.
Delta State (14-1) holds down the number one spot with 240 points while Azusa Pacific (17-1) is number two with 232 points. Florida Southern is next with 224 points followed by Tampa (12-3, 216 pts.) and Mercyhurst (5-0, 195 pts.).
Mount Olive (13-4-1), who the Moccasins defeated 12-3 on Monday, is ranked sixth followed by St. Thomas Aquinas (6-2), Colorado Mesa (11-5), Southern New Hampshire (7-2), and California Baptist (10-3).
Florida Southern is batting .319 as a team but has slugged 30 home runs in just 19 games this season and have outscored their opponents 163-84 so far. On the mound, the Moccasin pitching staff has a combined 3.90 ERA.
The Moccasins head back to the diamond tomorrow at 3 p.m. on the road at North Greenville in Tigerville, SC.
