MELBOURNE, FL - Florida Southern has been picked to finish third in the 2018 Sunshine State Conference preseason baseball coaches' poll released today by the league office.
Florida Southern received 80 points in the poll, nine behind second-place Nova Southeastern got one first-place vote and 89 points. Tampa is No. 1 in the poll after earning 100 total votes and 10 first-place votes.
The Moccasins finished 2017 with a 35-17 record advancing to their 43rd NCAA post tournament. Florida Southern finished third the SSC last season with a 12-12 record.
Florida Southern had three players chosen in the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft with pitcher Jake Walsh going in the 16th round by the St. Louis Cardinals. Mitch Reeves was tabbed in the 32nd round by the Cleveland Indians while Logan Browing was a 37th round pick of the San Diego Padres. In addition, Cameron Hanes signed a free agent contract with the Milwaukee Brewers. Walsh and Reeves signed with their respective clubs while Browning opted to return to the school for his senior season.
