Reeves and Walsh Named Baseball Team Co-MVPs

Mitch Reeves and Jake Walsh have been named Co-Most Valuable Players for the Florida Southern baseball team by Moccasin Head Coach, Lance Niekro.

Reeves led the Moccasins with 17 home runs this past season, second most in program history, and finished his two-year FSC career with 28 homers, fourth most for any Moccasin player. The senior outfielder hit .363 on the season while leading the club in homers, RBI (53), runs (55), and total bases (133). Reeves was voted to the All-South team by the ABCA, NCBWA, and D2CCA.

Reeves made the switch this past season to left field where he started each of FSC's 52 games played after starting 48 games at third base as a junior in 2016. The Cleveland Indians drafted Reeves in the 34th round of the June Major League Draft last month and assigned the Oviedo, Fla. native, to the club's rookie affiliate in the Arizona League. Reeves made his pro debut on June 25, getting his first base hit in his second at-bat.

Walsh, led the Moccasins with a 12-1 record and a 2.80 earned run average while recording 104 strikeouts, second on the squad. The junior righthander was named an All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, and the Division II Conference Commissioners Association. He was also named the South Region Pitcher of the Year by the NCBWA and the D2CCA.

Walsh was a 16th round selection by the St. Louis Cardinals in the June draft and assigned to the Johnson City, the Cards' affiliate in the rookie Appalachian League. The Indialantic, Fla. native made his professional debut on June 28 by getting the win with 1.0 inning of relief work.
