LAKELAND – Mitch Reeves and Logan Browning each clubbed three run home runs in game one while Kevin Fuller added three hits in game two as 8th-ranked Florida Southern took a pair from Palm Beach Atlantic, 14-5 and 10-2, to complete a three-game series sweep of the Sailfish.
The two wins pushes the Moccasins' win streak to seven games and improves FSC record to 23-7. Forida Southern has now won 15 of its last 16 games. Palm Beach Atlantic drops to 17-17.
In game one, Palm Beach Atlantic took a 1-0 lead in the fourth, but Florida Southern matched it with a RBI-double by Jason Sierra in the bottom of the frame.
Palm Beach Atlantic put up a four spot in the top of the fifth, but again the Moccasins answered, scoring five times in the bottom of the inning. David Lugo singled to lead off the finning and, one out later, Pablo Cabrera drew a walk while Browning singled to load the bases. Sam Machonis singled in two runs while Reeves followed with his seven homer of the season for a 6-5 lead.
In the next innings, Evan Barnes reached on a error and Cabrera was hit buy a pitch, setting the stage for Browning's three-run homer, also his seventh of the season.
Florida put up another five-run inning in the eighth, combining singles by Machonis, Shawn Sanders, and David Lugo with three walks and an error for the final 14-5 margin.
In game two, the Moccasins grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning on singles by Machonis and Sierra. In the second inning, Blake Swann, Fuller, and Browning all doubled and Reeves added an RBI-single for three runs and a 4-0 lead.
Florida Southern added a solo run in the third inning when Machonis was plunked by a pitch with the bases loaded and then got a two-run single by Swann in the fourth to score Sierra and Dominic Brugnoni.
After Palm Beach Atlantic scored twice in the top of the fifth, Florida Southern countered with a pair of runs in the seventh on back-to-back singles by Machonis and Reeves and a two-RBI double by Sierra.
The final Moccasin run came in the ninth as Fuller collected his second double of the game and scored on a single by Browning for the final 10-2 score.
Cameron Hanes worked five innings to get the win for the Moccasins, his first since Feb. 20, to improve to 2-4 on the year. Brady Arenson threw three scoreless innings, holding the Sailfish to one hit, while Craig Savaga tossed a scoreless ninth for the Moccasins.
Florida Southern will hit the road Wednesday to play a 6 p.m. game in St. Augustine against Flagler College.
