Florida Southern senior Michael VanDerLaan earned a spot on the PING Division II All-American Team Wednesday night after winning the Division II Arnold Palmer Award given to the individual national champion. It’s the 15th year in a row the Moccasins have had at least one All-American, and the seventh straight year they’ve put one on the First Team.
DANIELS, WV – One day after Florida Southern got an individual national title from one of its senior golfers, the second one put together a comeback win for the ages that helped propel the Moccasins into the national semifinals. Christian Anderson overcame a five-stroke deficit halfway through his match to post the decisive win in his match after junior Chase Ibbotson came back from a two-stroke deficit with five holes to play to tie the score. Combined with an earlier win by Michael VanDerLaan, that gave No. 8 Florida Southern a 3-1-1 win over Trevecca Nazarene and set up a match against No. 10 Lincoln Memorial later Thursday afternoon.

For the second year in a row, Florida Southern junior Amanda Gartrell has been named a Second Team All-American by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association. First team selections were announced at the conclusion of stroke play at the national finals on May 15, and the second team and honorable mention honorees were announced Monday night, May 20.

TAMPA, FL - Florida Southern College women's lacrosse's streak of consecutive national championship appearances ended at three following a double-overtime loss to Rollins. The Mocs (16-4) rallied back to tie the Tars (15-2) at 11-11 late into the second half. After neither team could convert shots in the first overtime period the game went to a second overtime period where the Tars would fire home the game-winner.

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FLA. – The El Campeon Course at the Mission Inn Resort has been a challenge so far for some of the best teams in Division II men’s Golf. Only one team broke par in Thursday’s opening round of the NCAA Division South/Southeast Super Regional, only two were at even-par, and no one else was better than +9. Florida Southern is one of those teams in the mix, however, as the 8th-ranked Moccasins had a score of 301 to put themselves in eighth place, only one shot back of the seven positions that will advance to the national finals.
Senior designated player Jessica Trana was voted to two different All-South Region Softball Teams this week by earning NFCA Second Team honors from the coaches’ organization, and second team honors by the Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association. She is the first Florida Southern DP to make the all-region team since Angela Williams did so in 2008 and ’09.
The NCAA postseason begins Thursday for the Florida Southern men’s golf team as the Moccasins open play in the Division II South/Southeast Super Regional. The three-day, three-round tournament is being played at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The Hills, Florida with Rollins College serving as host. It includes 10 teams from the South and 10 from the Southeast along with eight individual qualifiers. The top seven teams and the top two golfers not with one of those teams will advance to the Division II National Championships in Daniels, West Virginia, May 20-24.

The senior from Gijon, Spain went 13-5 in singles play this season with a 1-0 record in the No. 1 flight and a 12-5 record in the No. 2 flight.
