DZIKAS, JOHNSON LEAD MOCS PAST LIONS

Megan Dzikas and Chelsea Johnson combined for 42 points to lead the Moccasins to a 73-62 Sunshine State Conference win over Saint Leo Wednesday night at Jenkins Field House.

Dzikas poured in 19 of her game-high 22 points in the second half, while Johnson, the SSC's leading free throw shooter, was a perfect 11-11 from the free throw line en route to a 20-point night.  Emer Foley contributed her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Despite shooting just 29 percent from the field in the first half, the Moccasins held a 34-30 halftime lead and never trailed in the second half.  Saint Leo twice got as close as one point, at 41-40 with 14:05 left and at 43-42 with 12:50 left, but both times the Moccasins responded with a basket from Dzikas to boost the lead.

The Moccasins improved to 16-6 overall, 7-5 in the SSC, giving them their best record since the 2004-05 season, when they finished 18-11 overall and won the SSC with a 13-3 mark.   Saint Leo fell to 10-12, 2-10 in the SSC.

Saturday the Moccasins play a non-conference game at Flagler at 2 p.m.  FSC won the first meeting this season with the Saints 85-63 on Jan. 17 at Jenkins Field House.
