INDIANAPOLIS - Florida Southern Women’s Basketball will have its Sunshine State Conference home game on Feb. 9 broadcast live on national television as part of the CBS Sports Network Division II Basketball Game of the Week package that was announced Thursday morning.
“We are excited to have our women’s basketball home game with Nova Southeastern selected to be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network,” FSC Director of Athletics Pete Meyer said. “To be one of 14 teams selected and one of seven teams to have a home game chosen, it is a great opportunity for us to showcase our campus, our athletic program, our women’s basketball team and the community of Lakeland to the entire nation.”
The Division II Basketball Game of the Week package is in its seventh season with the CBS Sports Network and the partnership was developed to provide Division II schools and conferences live national television exposure for their football and basketball programs.
“Our membership continues to value this program,” said Division II Vice President Mike Racy in a release from the NCAA announcing the basketball television package. “Not only does it give our schools an opportunity to showcase their student-athletes, it also gives them a big platform to tell the world about their overall institution and community.”
The Moccasins game with Nova Southeastern will tip off at 12 p.m. and is one of only two women’s games selected that isn’t a doubleheader. The other women’s game selected was defending D-II champion Shaw hosting Johnson C. Smith in a CIAA game on Feb. 23.
Along with showcasing the women’s defending D-II champion, the package will also include defending D-II men’s champion Western Washington hosting Simon Fraser, the NCAA’s first international member, on March 2.
This year’s national basketball television package gets underway on Saturday, Jan. 5 with an MIAA doubleheader in Pittsburg, Kan., as Pittsburg State will host Northwest Missouri State at 12:30 p.m. EST. The second game selected is scheduled for January 12 and it features Lincoln Memorial hosting Anderson in an SAC men’s game beginning at 12 p.m. EST.
On Jan. 26, the network will broadcast a doubleheader at Valdosta State as the Blazers host Delta State in a GSC match-up beginning at 11:30 a.m. EST.
Following the FSC-Nova game, the network will air a Peach Belt men’s game at Montevallo between Montevallo and Clayton State on Feb. 16 at 12 p.m. EST. The second to last scheduled game is the Shaw-Johnson C. Smith women’s game on Feb. 23 at 12 p.m. EST.
The seventh and final game of the package will have Simon Fraser playing at Western Washington in an GNAC men’s game beginning at 4 p.m. EST on March 2.
Division II and CBS Sports Network is also televising six regular season football games this season.
The Mocs, who are under the direction of first-year coach Holly Borchers, begin practice for the 2012-13 season on Oct. 15 and open the regular season on Nov. 10 in Aiken, S.C., against USC-Aiken. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. EST.
