MOSELEY IS SSC DEFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK

After shutting out Nova Southeastern for Florida Southern’s first win of the season, goalkeeper Erin Moseley has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player-of-the-Week presented by VALIC. The sophomore from Jacksonville made eight saves in the 1-0 victory, which was the Moccasins’ only game of the week.

In her first year as a starter, Moseley has recorded two shutouts in her first five games, with the first one coming in a scoreless tie against Anderson (SC) on September 2. Her eight saves against Nova Southeastern were a career-high, and six of them came with the game still tied. Moseley was forced into three saves in the first 25 minutes of the game while facing a flurry of early shots taken by the Sharks.

Moseley is the first Moccasin to win the SSC Defensive Player-of-the-Week since defender Kristen Vollmer did so in October of 2009. She’s only the second Moccasin goalkeeper honored as a player-of-the-week, with Kim Fish earning the award three times in her career from 2003-06.

Florida Southern will play its 2012 home opener on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. against Rollins College. Wednesday’s match will be a non-conference game and marks the beginning of a 3-game home-stand for the Moccasins.
