FSC Hosting Wilson/ITA South Regional

Florida Southern will host the Wilson/ITA Men’s South Regional Championships this week starting Thursday and running through Sunday.  The tournament will be played at the Beerman Tennis Complex on Edgewood Drive in Lakeland.

The Wilson/ITA South Region Championships feature players from the top NCAA Division II schools in the region. The singles and doubles champions from this weekend's tournament advance to the Oct. 15-18 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Small College Championships at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama.

Eleven schools are represented in the tournament.  In addition to the host Moccasins, players from Barry, Eckerd, Florida Tech, Lynn, Palm Beach Atlantic, Rollins, Saint Leo, Valdosta State, West Alabama and West Florida will be competing.  The tournament begins Thursday at 8:30 a.m. with doubles competition to be followed by the first two rounds of singles competition.

Daniel Dueren of Valdosta State has drawn the top seed in the singles competition and the team of Dueren and Phillip Pakebusch is seeded #1 in the doubles competition.  Barry's Ales Svegelj is seeded second in singles and the team of Svegelj and Marco Mokrzycki is seeded #2 in doubles.

The Moccasins' top-seeded competitor is Roman Schirmaier, who is seeded eighth in the singles competition.  In addition to Schirmaier, the Moccasins' will be represented by Nicolas Bigler, Javier Castro, Brian deMontfort, Ray Duyungan, Guenther Fercher, C.J. Johnson, Kirk Kucin, Christian Lange and Ben Taylor.
