Gouge Earns National Division II Swimmer-of-the-Week Award
LAKELAND – After earning back-to-back Sunshine State Conference Women’s Swimmer-of-the-Week awards presented by VALIC, freshman Kelsey Gouge (Snellville, Ga.) earned the Counsilman Hunsaker Swimmer-of-the-Week award for Division II after her performance in the pool helped lead #13 Florida Southern to a 106-99 dual meet win against #18 Nova Southeastern this past Saturday.
In this past Saturday’s action, Gouge captured two individual event wins, the 50-yard freestyle (24.14) and the 100-yard freestyle (52.46). Both event times were once again good enough for NCAA Division II “B” standard qualifiers.
Besides the two individual events, Gouge was also a part of the first-place 200-yard medley relay where she swam a 29.76 breaststroke split. Overall, the relay team clocked a first-place time of 1:49.24 in the event.
Gouge keeps adding to her already impressive freshman resume as she has captured 17 individual wins so far this season. Along with those individual wins, this is her fourth weekly award on the year as she has earned three SSC swimmer-of-the-week honors as well this season.
The Mocs will get back to action this upcoming Saturday, Jan. 26, at noon for a dual meet against Daytona State College on the campus of Florida Southern College at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center Pool. It will be the last dual-meet of the season before the SSC Championships take place in Clearwater starting Feb. 13 and running through Feb. 16.
