Holmes Makes All-SSC Men's Soccer Team for Third Straight Season

Ashley Holmes etched his name in the Florida Southern history book one more time Thursday when the fifth-year senior was named to the All-Sunshine State Conference men’s soccer team for the third time in his career. The only Florida Southern player on the team, Holmes is one of just three Moccasins who have been 3-time All-SSC selections in their careers, and only the second to do it three years in a row.

A Second Team selection as a defender, Holmes started all but one game at center back for the Moccasins in 2012, and his 15 starts were second on the team. In addition to being the leader of the Florida Southern defense, he also scored two goals, with both of them coming in the second half of different games to send those games to overtime.

A First Team selection in 2010 and 2011, Holmes has joined forwards Frank Bresk (1990, ’91, and ’93) and Mike Nance (1999-2001) as Florida Southern’s only 3-time All-SSC performers. He was also a 2-time SSC Defensive Player-of-the-Week, and has scored a total of 11 goals and 23 points in his career. After receiving a medical redshirt in 2009, he graduated in the spring of 2012 and played this season as a graduate student. Holmes will leave Florida Southern as the only 4-year captain in the program’s 56-year history.
