WOMEN’S GOLF FINISHES THIRD … Women’s Golf ended their fall season at the Saint Leo Invitational with a third place finish after shooting a season high 292 for overall team score during the second round. The Mocs were once again paced by senior Megan Kiley who finished in a tie for sixth however sophomore Emily Rymer led the Mocs during the second round by carding a career-high one-under par 71 to finish tied for tenth. The Mocs will return to action in early spring where they will seek their fifth national title.
SSC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK PRESENTED BY VALIC … After two straight conference wins over Saint Leo and Eckerd two Florida Southern players were recognized as the Sunshine State Players-of-the-Week presented by VALIC. After scoring four goals in these pass two games Kara Moore was selected as the SSC Offensive Player-of-the-week, while Morgan Sammons was the Defensive Play-of-the-Week after helping the Mocs allow just 10 shots on goal and just one goal over those two games. Moore completed a hat trick against Eckerd College scoring all three of the Mocs goals in the 3-1 win. Against Eckerd, Sammons led the defense to another strong effort, only allowing seven shots only three which were on target. This is her second time being selected as SSC player of the week and Sammons is the first player in team history to ever be recognized as player of the week both on the defensive and offensive side.
WOMEN’S SOCCER RANKED SIXTH IN NCAA SOUTH REGION RANKINGS … With three games remaining in the regular season the Mocs enter the NCAA South Region ranks in the pivotal sixth spot. Six teams are taken from the South Region into post season play. Currently the Mocs hold a 5-6-2 record and a 3-2-1 record in the SSC, with conference games against Tampa (No. 3 in the region) and Rollins (No. 2) remaining.
SENIOR NIGHT AND LAST HOME GAMES FOR SOCCER … Florida Southern Soccer will honor its seniors this Saturday as both the men and women will be playing their last home game. On the men’s side four players will be recognized for their time at Florida Southern, midfielder James May, defender Ashely Holmes, forward Jovaughn Howard, and midfielder David Blanco. Holmes has been with the Mocs for five seasons after red shirting his sophomore year due to injury, he has served as co-captain for the fourth year in a row. Both May and Howard have been with the Mocs since their freshman year and Blanco joined the Mocs this season after attending the University of Florida. On the women’s team three players will be celebrated on senior night, defender Morgan Sammons, defender Robin Loughry and forward Kayla Wilhide. Sammons has been at FSC all four years and is in her second season as a captain for the Mocs, Wilhide also has been part of the Mocs since her freshman year. Loughry is in her second season with the Mocs after transferring to FSC from Polk State College.
CROSS COUNTRY COACH REBECCA MARSH TIME TRIAL EXPERT … Head Cross Country Coach Rebecca Marsh was a dominate runner on the course during her running career at Florida Southern. She earned first-team All-SSC Honors four times and was a part of four SSC Tournament Championships from 1997-2000. Now, Marsh who helps lead the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Squads at Florida Southern, is dominating in a different field. During 2012 Coach Marsh has taken to the road and won 22 of 23 Time-Trial events that she has competed in. The only non-win for Marsh was the 2012 National Championship where she finished in the top-three as a Pro 1-2 category. Most recently she won the women's Pro 1/2 State Time-Trial with a time of 1:00:32.
PRESEASON SSC BASKETBALL RANKINGS … The Head Basketball Coaches and Sports Information Directors in the SSC have determined who the preseason favorites are to win the SSC basketball title. On the men’s side, the Saint Leo Lions were picked to finish first while Florida Southern was in second receiving 172 total points and six of the 18 first place votes. The Lions earned a total of 180 points and 10 first place votes. In the women’s half of the SSC the Mocs, who received 88 points, were picked to finish in fifth place after co-winning the 2011-12 regular season title. The Rollins Tars were selected as preseason favorites with 188 points and 13 of the 18 first place votes.

Athletic Director for Athletic Communication Ben Greenberg provides information and updates on Moccasin Athletics each week with “Mayhem in the AM” host Len Erickson. The program will air each Friday morning throughout the school year.
