Mocs' Gutierrez To Represent Honduras At 2012 Olympics
Allan Gutierrez will compete in the 400-meter freestyle at the 2012 OlympicsMoccasin freshman Allan Gutierrez has earned a trip to the 2012 Olympics in London. He will represent his home country of Honduras and compete in the 400-meter freestyle event. Gutierrez finished fourth in his heat, the first of the day in the 400m freestyle, with a time of 4:09.10 and does not advance to the next round.
As a freshman for the Moccasins this season, he was a three-time All-American at the NCAA Division II Championship. He was a member of the national champion 800-yard freestyle relay team that won in an NCAA-record time of 6:27.73. He swam on the 400-yard freestyle relay team that placed third in a school-record time of 2:58.13 and finished 12th in the 200-yard freestyle. He also set two individual school records - 4:32.12 in the 500-yard freestyle and 9:35.34 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Gutierrez is believed to be the first-ever FSC student-athlete to qualify to compete in the Olympics.
The 400-meter freestyle event is scheduled for July 28.
