Mocs Climb Four Spots On Day 2 At Men's Super Regional
A four-stroke improvement in their score resulted in a four spot improvement in the team standings for the Moccasins on Day Two of the NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional at Rock Barn Golf and Spa at Conover, N.C., Tuesday.
Starting the day tied for 11th, the Moccasins shot a 293 in the second round and that boosted them from a tie for 11th to a tie for seventh with 18 holes to play on Wednesday. The top five teams after Wednesday's final round will advance to the NCAA Division II Championship May 16-19 at Louisville, Ky.
Georgia College & State is the team leader at 580 after a second-round 289. First-round leader Florida Tech slipped to second, one stroke back, after shooting a 295. UNC-Pembroke, Barry and South Carolina-Aiken are in a three-way tie for third at 584. Lynn is sixth at 586. FSC, Eckerd and Barton are tied for seventh at 590 in the 20-team field.
Shane Convery turned in the Moccasins' top round of the day, collecting four birdies in the first six holes. He finished with a 71 that put him in a tie for 49th at 150. Case Gard is the Moccasins' top performer through two rounds. He's tied for 13th at 144. Lee White is tied for 27th at 147. Peter Creighton and Tim Crouch each had rounds of 77 Tuesday. Crouch is tied for 68th at 152 and Creighton is tied for 73rd at 153.
Eckerd's Jeff Evanier fired a second-round 68 to take the individual lead at 138. Matt Atkins of South Carolina-Aiken and first-day leader J.P. Griffin of Georgia Southwestern are tied for second, two strokes behind the leader.
The final round of the tournament will be played Wednesday.
