Mocs Tied For 11th After First Day Of Men's Super Regional
The Moccasins have some work to do if they hope to qualify for the NCAA Division II Championship. After Monday's first round of the South/Southeast Super Regional at Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover, N.C., the Moccasins are tied for 11th with a team score of 297.
Florida Tech is the first-day leader at 286, with Lynn two strokes back at 288. In third place is Barton at 290. Rollins and Georgia College & State are tied for fourth at 291. South Carolina-Aiken is alone in sixth at 294. Eckerd and Barry are tied for seventh at 295. UNC-Pembroke and Carson-Newman are tied for ninth at 296. FSC is tied with Armstrong Atlantic. The top five teams in the 20-team field will advance to the Division II Championship May 16-19 at Louisville, Ky.
Case Gard had the Moccasins' top score in the opening round, finishing with a one-under-par 71 that put him in a goup of nine golfers tied for 10th.
Georgia Southwestern's J.P. Griffin is the individual leader after shooting a four-under-par 68. One stroke back is Taylor Smith of Georgia College & State. Four golfers are tied for third at 70.
After Gard's 71, the Moccasins had rounds of 75 from Lee White and Tim Crouch that put them in a tie for 53rd. Peter Creighton shot a 76 and is tied for 64th. Shane Convery finished the day with a 79 and is tied for 88th.
Round two will be played Tuesday, with the final round set for Wednesday.
