Mocs Claim Second In SSC Tournament
With Nova Southeastern already holding a commanding lead, the Moccasins' battle on the final day of the Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Tournament was with Florida Tech for second place and the Moccasins prevailed at The Concession at Bradenton.
The Sharks started the day with a 19-stroke lead over the Moccasins and Panthers and won by 37. Nova had a final round score of 297 to finish the tournament at 876 and claim the SSC title for the second straight year.
The Moccasins were able to edge Florida Tech by one stroke for the runner-up spot thanks in part to the second eagle of the tournament by Lee White on the par five 17th hole. He had eagled the same hole in Monday's first round. That helped give the Moccasins a final round of 315 and a 913 final score, one stroke better than the Panthers.
Nova Southeastern's dominance was evident in the final individual scores. The Sharks had the top four finishers, led by Ben Taylor, who had a final round of 67 to finish at 216, one stroke better than teammate Oscar Lengden. Nova's Ricardo Celia and Mitch Farrer tied for third at 223.
For the Moccasins, Tim Crouch tied for sixth with a 224 after shooting a 77 in the final round. That was the Moccasins' best score of the day. Case Gard was 10th at 228. White tied for 11th at 229. Shane Convery tied for 25th at 236. Peter Creighton tied for 29th at 240.
The Moccasins will now wait to see if they are selected to play in the NCAA Super Regional May 7-9.
