Perfect Scores by Riutort, Near Perfection by Goge Gives FSC 9-0 Win Over Lindenwood
LAKELAND – Magda Riutort didn’t drop a single game Tuesday, either in doubles or singles, Sabine Goge nearly pulled off the same feat, and six other Moccasins contributed to the team scoring efforts as well as #12 Florida Southern blanked Lindenwood (MO), 9-0.
Riutort and Goge combined for an 8-0 win at number one doubles, Crystal Copeland and Jessica Cove won by the same score in the third position, and Christie Nunnemann and Olivia Spagnuolo nearly made it 3-for-3 before winning their doubles match, 8-1.
In singles play, Riutort was never really challenged in a 6-0, 6-0 win over Adela Slovakova at the top flight. It was Riutort’s sixth straight win at number one singles, giving her a 6-1 record since moving to that spot. Goge just missed a perfect score too when her opponent, Mariona Pinol, won the sixth game in the second set to create a final of 6-0, 6-1. By then, Florida Southern had already received wins from Riutort, Copeland and Pamela Paradis, with Paradis scoring the clincher. Jill Doerfler ended the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win at number six.
Ten of the 12 sets played in singles competition ended with the Mocs winning either 6-0 or 6-1, and only Sarah Sharpe at the number four position won more than two games for the Lions, who fell to 1-11.
Florida Southern, which has now win five in a row to improve to 8-7, will play its first conference match in over a month, when it travels to Saint Leo on Wednesday for a 3:00 start.
