Mocs Fifth After First Day Of Southeastern Collegiate
Tied for third after the first round of the Southeastern Collegiate Tournament at Valdosta, Ga., Monday, the Moccasins improved their opening-round score by three strokes in round two, but slipped to fifth, as three of the four teams ahead of them also improved their first-round scores.
The Moccasins shot a 291 in the first round and followed with a 288 for a first-day total of 579 in the 14-team field. North Alabama, with rounds of 285-282, is the team leader at 567. Barry is second at 568 after rounds of 281-287. Lynn went from a 293 first-round to a 277 in round two and is third at 570. West Florida, which was tied with FSC at 291 after the first round, finished the day at 573 after shooting a second-round 282.
North Alabama’s Tyler Chandler is the individual leader after shooting back-to-back rounds of five-under-par 67 to finish the day at 134 with a three-stroke lead over Lynn’s Marcelo Rozo and West Florida’s Carlos Rodriguez.
The Moccasins’ Lee White started the day with a career-best first round of 68 that included five straight birdies on the back nine and finished with a 73 to put him in a tie for eighth at 141. Case Gard started with a 74 and finished with a 69 that has him in 16th place with a 143.
Peter Creighton is tied for 26th at 146. Shane Convery is tied for 39th at 149 and Tim Crouch is tied for 61st at 54.
The final round of the tournament is Tuesday.
