Larson Named To All-SSC Team For Fourth Straight Year

For the fourth straight year, the Moccasins' Eric Larson has been named to the All-Sunshine State Conference Men's Cross Country Team.
A senior from Pensacola, Larson was the Moccasins' top runner at this year's SSC meet, finishing third. He placed fifth in the SSC meet in 2010, second in 2009 and fourth in 2008, when he also was named SSC Freshman of the Year. Larson joins former Moccasins Tyrone Bell (2002-05) and Ben Martucci (2007-10) as the program's only four-time All-SSC men's honorees.
Larson will try to earn a third trip to the NCAA Division II Championship, when he leads the Moccasins into the NCAA South Regional Saturday at Dover. The 10K men's race starts at 9 a.m. The Moccasins have qualified as a team each of the last two years. The top two teams and the top two individuals not on the qualifying teams will advance to the Division II Championship Nov. 19 at Spokane, Wash.
Larson was FSC's only representative on the All-SSC Team. Florida Tech's Moses Kirui, who won the SSC meet, was named the Men's Runner of the Year. His teammate, Justin McMaster, was voted SSC Men's Freshman of the Year. Tampa's Jarrett Slaven, whose men won their first SSC cross country title, was voted Men's Coach of the Year.
For the women, Tampa's Jessica Butler and Saint Leo's Tereza Novotna were named co-Women's Runners of the Year. Novotna won the SSC meet and Butler was second. Notovna was voted SSC Women's Freshman of the Year. Slaven, whose women won their fifth straight SSC title, also was voted Women's Coach of the Year.
