Tampa Ends Mocs' 14-Year Title Reign; Mocs Are Second
Eric Larson has his fourth straight top five SSC finishFor the first time in 15 years, there is a new men's cross country champion in the Sunshine State Conference.
With four runners placing in the top ten, Tampa scored 40 points to win its first SSC men's cross country title Saturday at Markham Park in Sunrise. The Moccasins made a strong bid for their 15th straight crown, but finished second with 48 points. Florida Tech and Nova Southeastern tied for third with 70 points each. Saint Leo was fifth with 133 and Rollins was sixth with 185.
Tampa's top five scoring runners finished second, sixth, seventh, 10th and 15th, while the Moccasins' top five scorers placed third, eighth, ninth, 11th and 17th.
Florida Tech's Moses Kirui was the individual winner over the 8K course in a time of 25:46.60. Tampa's Charlie Toledo was second in 25:54.62 and the Moccasins' Eric Larson was third in 25:57.90. Larson's finish marked the fourth straight year he has finished in the top five at the SSC Championship.
Behind Larson for the Moccasins, David Tomchinsky was eighth (26:20), Jason Patchett-Gillis was ninth (26:30), Chris Yanichko was 11th (26:50) and Bryce Loudermilk was 17th (27:19.54). Larson, Tomchinsky and Patchett-Gillis were FSC's representatives on the All-Championship Team that consisted of the top 10 finishers.
