Mocs Play Their Best Round, But Finish Seventh At Nova Invitational
Despite shooting their best round of the tournament Tuesday, the Moccasins slipped one notch to seventh place on the final day of the Nova Southeastern Sharks Invitational at the PGA National Course in Palm Beach Gardens.
After shooting two rounds of 298 Monday, the Moccasins shot a 296 Tuesday to finish with a team score of 892. Barton, which ended Monday’s two rounds in ninth place, shot a final-round 289 to move ahead of the Moccasins into sixth place at 889. Barry maintained its first-day lead and won the tournament with an 863, 14 strokes better than runner-up Nova Southeastern.
Individually for the Moccasins, Lee White shot a career-best three-under-par 69 to finish third at 213, just two strokes behind tournament champion Simon Forsslund of Barry. Forsslund, with a final round 71, edged Johnson & Wales’ Jordan Meltzer by one stroke for the individual championship, 211-212.
Tim Crouch tied for 23rd at 224 after his final round of 76. Jake Nutter and Peter Creighton each had final rounds of 77 to finish tied for 40th at 229. Case Gard had a 74 in the final round and tied for 52nd at 232. Playing as an individual, Alex Carpenter tied for 36th at 227.
